The artist has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to preserve the UK's grassroots live music spots.

The star was presented with the prize on October 16 as his latest record the album was chosen as the best record of the past year.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved this success if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted spaces that were dealing with possible closure due to issues arising from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted financial assistance in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that developed their group, in addition to other local music groups.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," stated singer Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

Recently, the MVT announced it had protected two local spots in that region, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in the city and the second in that location were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
