Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of disseminating false claims regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the husband and wife's significant age difference.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A longstanding false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their legal filing contends that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she taught at his lycée.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
